The holiday season can be a fun and hectic time for the whole family, and just like young children, your pets will feel the effects of all the excitement. Cooking, shopping, relatives visiting and traveling will disrupt your pets comfortable routine. He will need to have his place, whether it be a crate or a room out of the way, where he can feel safe and secure. Remember, not all your guests will like dogs and your dog may not like all your guests! If your dog is going to be able to mingle with family and friends, ask them not to feed your dog any treats. Rich, spicy food, chocolate and fatty foods, can all cause gastric upset.

All the pretty ornaments and decorations can be very tempting for your dog, either to play with, chew on or eat. Keep live greens and plants off the floor and out of reach. It may be a good idea to tie your tree down so it cannot be tipped over. One year we had a 13 foot tall tree and while we were out, our Lab knocked it over…what a mess! Use unbreakable ornaments on the lower branches of your tree and avoid using tinsel or garland where your dog can reach it. Of course the best solution is to train your dog to stay away from the tree, but it may just be too tempting for even the most angelic of pooches.

If you have children opening presents with lots of parts, make sure they keep all the pieces together and off the floor. There are any number of toys or even socks and gloves that your dog can ingest. The last thing you want to do on your holiday is make a trip to the emergency vet. Another potential danger is your dog escaping out the door as guests are arriving or leaving. Be aware if your pup is likely to make a run for it and keep him safely secured.

If you are going to travel with your best furry friend, make arrangements well in advance. Have a copy of your dogs vaccination record and make sure he has a collar with a tag listing your name and phone number. Bring his bed or blanket and favorite toys. The best way for your dog to travel buy car is in a harness or in his crate. You should have his crate with your so he can sleep there or just hang out there if he needs quiet time. If you are not staying with family, there are now many hotel chains that are pet friendly. Look online and call ahead to find out the specifics. Do not plan to sedate or medicate your dog for travel unless your veterinarian recommends it.

Air travel with your pet has become easier, especially if you have a small dog that can travel in the cabin under your seat. Again, check with the airline for their rules and restrictions. Remember no one wants to hear your dog barking all the way to grandmothers house. If your dog needs to fly cargo, your flight plan will need to be made based on the airlines live cargo restrictions. Call ahead or look online for the airlines information on flying your pet in cargo. We have sent puppies to different parts of the country and have never had a problem. The airline we use is extremely capable and well organized and take good care of the pups. Size restrictions on the crate as well as temperature restrictions can impact your flight plans.

With some extra care and planning ahead, your holiday season can be safe and enjoyable for the whole family, four-legged members included.

Air travel with dogs. How can I make it easier on them?

I will be moving from Hawaii to Arizona. Any handy tips on how to make it less traumatic for them? What paper work do I need to transport them? I don’t want to loose them because of my ignorance. Would like to hear any good or bad experiences.

Your local vet will have all the paperwork you need to transport them. Make sure you get an appointment within the time frame for travel. They have to be checked out and approved no more than 2 weeks before your flight (I think). To make the trip less stressful you can ask your vet for some sedatives. I gave my lab some sedatives when we moved from Alaska to Oklahoma.

Air Travel Car Seat

Air Travel Car Seat

Are you looking for a high quality, safety oriented convertible car seat? Then you may want to consider a baby car seat from Britax. Britax is the top-rated brand that we often seen in many car seat reviews. Some products from Britax may seem like an expensive purchase at first glance. But Britax Roundabout is the least expensive car seat that everyone can afford. Unlike other brands, Britax always gives special attention to side impact safety and the ease of installation. In car crash tests and in many car seat reviews, the Britax has proven itself as one of the safest car seats available on the market. Most on the reviews also mention about how easy to install and use it. Furthermore, Britax has been the best selling products in many major retail store.

Many parents are trying to differentiate between Britax Roundabout and Britax Marathon. The primary difference is size. Britax Roundabout is slightly smaller than Britax Marathon. Another difference is that Britax Roundabout is designed for children weight range from 5 to 40 lbs while Britax Marathon is designed for children weight range from 5 to 65 lbs. Although Britax Marathon also has slightly better side impact protection but we can not conclude that Britax Marathon is better than Britax Roundabout. One advantage that the Roundabout has over the Marathon is that Britax Roundabout is slightly cheaper than other. Moreover, because of the smaller size, the Roundabout is perfect for air craft traveling and it is FAA approved. In any case, they are best for child age of 3 and below. Your child will most likely outgrow the car seat and you need to move him or her to a booster seat.

Booster car seats are the car seat for your child when he or she has outgrown the convertible car seat. Normally booster car seat should be installed in the back seat of your car and never try to installing it in the front. This is because your child is still not strong enough to take impact force from an air bag. Booster car seats are best for children who weight range from 40 to 80 lbs. Britax released Britax Frontier in the market but did not receive a good response from the consumers. Britax Frontier offers a very high level of protection but many parents found it is difficult to properly install in their car. Britax Boulevard comes with the same size as Britax Marathon but with True Side Impact Protection (TSIP). Britax Monarch is equipped with EPS foam side wings provide a True Side Impact Protection (TSIP) as same as Britax Boulevard and making it to be one of the safest on the market.

Britax is the industry standard for all parents who are concerning about safety of their child and want the easiest to use car seat. Air Travel w/ 6 or 7 month old?!?

Hey all! My son and I are flying to CA in June/July for the hubbs’ deployment homecoming and I need some tips for flying with him, since he’ll be 6-7 months old? It’s a 3 1/2 hour flight, I’m hoping to book nonstop so we won’t have to rush between gates and what not. I’m definitely getting him his own seat, so which car seats do you recommend for air travel? Also, how difficult is it to do diaper changes in the plane bathrooms? I know that sounds like a silly question, but it just came to my mind. Any other tips you have for traveling with a 6/7 month old would be GREATLY appreciated. I can’t leave him in Texas because my parents travel for the summer and I don’t really trust my in-laws (they swear SIDS doesn’t exist–ugh). Any advice you have, I’d greatly appreciate it!!

It’s much easier to travel with a 6-7 month-old than you think. It’s a pain in the butt to do diaper changes in the bathrooms on the plane, but if you have to do it, it will likely only be once. The flight isn’t too long, so if it’s a barely wet diaper (no poop), I’d leave them in it until the flight was over. If it’s heavy, changing it is the only sane thing to do. Be armed and ready. Have diaper, pad, and wipes out and take only those items to the bathroom with you. Do not lug the whole diaper bag. Change the baby just before boarding.

We used our Graco SnugRide at that age and it worked very well. Get one of those clicky stroller deals where the car seat slips right onto it and it’s soo convenient while traveling so you don’t have a stroller AND car seat to lug around the airport. Click the seat in and roll away…

Bring pacis if he takes them and make sure you have extra. They are great for helping with the ears. If he doesn’t take them, give him a bottle, nurse him, or give him a teething toy to help soothe his ears.

Bring a few colorful toys that crinkle, shake, and make other noises to occupy him for the flight. Hope he sleeps! My daughter slept through most of her flights at that age, luckily.

I think taking him is the best idea so Daddy can see his baby at the homecoming. If anyone gives you crap about it, explain that his Daddy is fighting for their right to moan about a baby on a flight and deserves the right to see his baby boy. Seriously, that will shut their mouths real quick.

Try to relax and just get through it. Good luck!

Air Travel Restrictions Carry On

Air Travel Restrictions Carry On

The countdown to Christmas is underway, and if you are planning to fly this Christmas make sure you are aware of the restrictions for carrying items in both hand and checked-in luggage.

Checking luggage restrictions is particularly important if you plan to carry Christmas presents onboard an aircraft, as you need to make sure that you are aware of what is and what isn’t permitted to avoid having items confiscated at security.

If you are carrying wrapped presents, they must be carried within your checked-in luggage. Any presents carried within your hand baggage must not be wrapped as they are subject to checks at security and may be unwrapped.

Most travellers should now be familiar with the liquids in hand luggage restrictions, after all, they were introduced three years ago! Don’t forget that the liquids in hand luggage rules also apply to Christmas presents, so if you are carrying a present, be it a bottle of champagne, perfume, or even a jar of jam, if it’s over 100ml it must be in your checked-in luggage otherwise it will be confiscated at security. Liquids include perfumes, pastes, gels, jams, preserves, lotions, lip sticks and mascara.

While it is permitted to carry Christmas presents within your hand luggage they must still adhere to the security rules of hand luggage items – no sharp objects, corkscrews etc. Check the weight restrictions of your hand luggage and make sure the size of your bag is the within the size permitted by your airline’s cabin baggage policy – you don’t need the added expense of having to check your bag in to the hold because it is too heavily laden with Christmas presents, or too large.

Pay particular attention to seasonal items such as Christmas crackers and party poppers as most airlines do not permit carriage of these items either in the cabin or hold. Some airlines permit Christmas crackers, but only if they are factory produced and are in unopened boxes – no homemade crackers will be permitted – and they must be carried in checked-in luggage only. As some crackers may contain restricted items within them, most airports have banned them from hand luggage – if you wish to carry them they must be placed in your checked-in luggage and must be for personal use only, generally a maximum of two boxes per passenger is permitted, but do check with your airline before packing them.

Another traditional Christmas item is the party popper, and while they may seem to just be a bit of fun, they are an explosive device and are not permitted to be carried at all, either in the cabin or hold.

If you are carrying Lithium batteries, these can pose a fire risk if not wrapped correctly, or the item they are being transported in is accidentally activated during the flight, so be careful when packing these items.

Good that must not be taken on board an aircraft include:

•fireworks, flares, toy gun caps

•culinary blowtorches, camping or compressed gas cylinders

•petrol, lighter fuel, paint, non-safety matches, firelighters

Items that can be carried include:

•gas powered hair curlers (one per person) – the safety cover must be fitted at all

•times, however, refills are not permitted

•safety matches, which must be carried on the person

So, if you are flying over Christmas and want to have as hassle-free a journey as possible, follow the rules, and if you have any questions about the carriage of any item check with your airline.

What are the positive and negative sides of liquids, aerosols, and gels restrictions on air travel?

Now we can’t longer put our liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAG) into our carry-on (hand luggage). Of course, every restriction have its own positive and negative sides. For example, the positive side of this restriction is to protect air travel from terrorist attacks. The negative side is that we can’t freely buy liquors, parfumes, or any other LAGs before the security screening checkpoint anymore.

Beside of the examples I’ve given, what are the positive and negative sides of liquids, aerosols, and gels restrictions on air travel?

A good question.

Well, because of this restriction I don’t have to pack so much for my carry-on. My hand luggage is no longer heavy :) and it makes me more careful when packing, too.

Other positive sides are the rule makes us aware of the restriction that each country implemented. Each country has its own rule so every time I’m traveling abroad, I’ve to review the rule. This restriction make me feel better when traveling by plane. I don’t need to be so nervous because with LAG restriction implemented air travel is going to be safer.

For my wife, the LAG restriction has made her more careful when packing her cosmetics. She needs to separate cosmetics which she’ll use during the flight and those which are not needed. For cosmetics needed, she put them in a resealable plastic bag and otherwise she put them into the checked luggage.

Simple, in just a sentence I can say that the restriction has a big positive side. It makes us more careful and discipline when packing things; otherwise the security checkpoint officers will drink our Coca-cola or using our “cost-an-arm-and-a-leg” cosmetics that night :) . The restriction also makes my mind more peaceful, though.

However, there are a lot of negatives as well. Now we have to be more selective in buying LAGs at the airport. We have to ensure that the shops we are purchasing at have the permission to deliver our bought things to the gate, especially if we are traveling to Australia and back to U.S.

We can’t buy LAGs in the air (air-shop or whatever it is called) if we are transitting to another country. For example, we are leaving from Singapore to Amsterdam via Tokyo. Since we have to take all of our belongings when transitting, we cannot buy any LAGs during our flight from Singapore to Tokyo.

The negative sides for the shops and stores are they usually have less demands nowadays… bad for them. Well, if there are more supplies than the demands, expect to see higher prices at airport stores then!

Hope these examples help!

Air Travel Distances

Air Travel Distances

Air travel has revolutionized the way the people travel. No matter it is a business trip, honeymoon trip, or family vacation, traveling by air is an essential segment of any trip. In other words, it has now become a prominent means of transportation for long distance travel as well as tourism and business purposes.

Air travel is simply a form of transportation that uses an air plane. With the rapid changes in lifestyle, this mode of travel became imperative to cope up with today’s busy business schedules. Travel via air has been categorized into charter and scheduled means. Mostly, included in the charter options are people traveling on a package holiday on a charter plane, which in turn are owned and operated by tour operators with which they are traveling. One of the features of charter facilities is that they vend seat-only deals in order to fill their flights.

On the other hand, in the case of scheduled airlines, they sell on seat-only basis, but run as per the timetable. Likewise, scheduled airlines operate flights mostly on the basis of holiday demand, and hence do not run flights every day to the same destination. Also, an important category of air travel is low cost airlines. As the name indicates, this category of airlines render exceptionally low fares, al though it may be attached with only few services in contrast to other two categories.

Whether you are a business or a leisurely traveler, a host of benefits could be derived via air travel. In terms of business purposes, one of the key benefits of it is that it enables corporate business firms as well as employees to save considerable time and money. This in turn is beneficial for time management.

Another prime benefit of this means of travel is that it allows for enhanced employee productivity. Also, a strategic benefit is that it helps to minimize time away from office and home. Improved industrial security, maximized personal safety, increased efficiency and reliability, and positive corporate image are the other prime benefits of air travel, from the point of view of business purposes.

However, the advantages of air travel are not just confined to corporate or business needs, but beyond that. With air travel, one can reach a destination within as well as outside the country within in hours. Further, since many of the leading airlines have slashed the rates, this has even allowed common men to opt for this type of travel. Above all, this mode of travel is extremely safe, since very few fatalities and injuries have been associated with travel by air. In short, air travel is in deed a boon to mankind.

Now we will discuss how to get maximum out of air travel. In other words, you can get maximum benefits via air travel, provided you are ready to do some leg work. The internet is regarded as one of the best sources to shop around for best deals on travel by air. Many of the travel sites on the web provide cheap air flights in the form of travel discounts as well as in-country discounts. This in turn is achieved through a number of ways such as credit card incentives and membership with certain reputable organizations including some reputable organizations. Advanced booking and airfare bookings online could also undoubtedly provide you great savings on travel through air.

Travel via air could be made an enjoyable experience, provided you take into consideration certain simple guidelines and regulations. First of all, as mentioned earlier, make airline reservations in advance. Similarly, if you are traveling with people with any disability, then inform this in advance to your travel agent who can arrange for all facilities including accommodation and equipments such as wheelchair.

Further, if you tour with your babies or children, then carry with you all necessary stuffs such as medicines and cribs. If you suffer from any kind of ailments such as diabetes or high BP, then it is recommended to take required medicines as well as prescriptions. Additionally, arrive early at the airport. However, prior to arriving at the airport, it is important you should have a clear idea on the policies and regulations of an airline. This in turn allows you to save a lot of probable hassles.

Algebra: The amount of time it takes to travel a given distance in inversely proportional to how fast you trav?

Sound travels at about 330 meters per second in air. How long would it take sound to travel 80 meters?

How long would it take sound to travel 1 mile, or 1609 meters.

Please any help with those would be great.

since t=d/v (according to your title) also more commonly seen as d=vt, use this formula to find out:

a
v=330 m/s (actually 343 but whatever :) )
d=80 m
t=80/330 s = 0.242 seconds

b
v=330 m/s
d=1609 m
t=1609/330 s = 4.88 seconds

Air Travel H1n1

Air Travel H1n1

It is that time of the year again, when influenza strikes thousands of people. The term “Flu”, a contagious respiratory illness, is caused by influenza viruses. It spreads from person-to-person and can cause mild to severe illness, and in some cases it can lead to death. Deaths generally result from complications such as pneumonia, ear or sinus infections and the worsening of existing chronic medical conditions.
Presently there are two strains of flu, seasonal flu and the H1N1 (Swine) flu, that are circulating here in the USA. The seasonal flu usually starts during the fall and continues through early spring. This is the flu that we are all familiar with, however the H1N1 is a new strain that we have not seen before.
The symptoms of H1N1 flu are similar to seasonal flu, but are more severe and may include additional symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea.

Who is at Risk?
Everyone is at risk of contracting the flu virus, both the seasonal and the N1H1 virus. Most healthy people recover from the flu without problems, but certain people are at a high risk than others for serious complications.
Those at higher risk and therefore need to be more cautious include:
• Pregnant women
• People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age.
• Emergency medical personnel and Health care workers
• Those 65 and older.
• Anyone between 6 months and 24 years old.
• People 25 through 64 who have a chronic health disorder or reduced immune systems.

How does the Flu spread from person to person?
The H1N1 virus is spread from person-to-person in the same way that regular seasonal influenza viruses spread; by contact with respiratory droplets from an infected person.
• This can occur by direct bodily contact or touching something with virus on it (shaking hands with a person who has the flu) and then touching your mouth, nose or eyes.
• Respiratory droplets are generated by a person coughing or sneezing near you coming into contact with your mouth, nose or eyes, as in an elevator or other enclosed area.

How do I protect myself?
First of all everyone should get vaccinated against both the Seasonal and H1N1. The Flu shot is the easy, effective and inexpensive way to protect yourself and your family from catching the flu virus. Recommended personal protective measures include:
• Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue away immediately in the trash after you use it.
• Wash your hands frequently with soap and warm water, especially after you cough or sneeze or have been in public places. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are also effective.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
• Have and use a personal flu kit when there is a risk of exposure to respiratory droplets from an infected person and when travelling.
• If you are sick, avoid public interaction as much as possible until 24 hours after signs and symptoms have ended without fever-reducing medications.
• Stop smoking to help prevent severe, life-threatening complications from the flu. Use your Zippo Lighter to start a Zippo Lighter Collection, not to light that cigarette.
• If weather permits, open windows to keep rooms well ventilated and air fresh.

Can I improve my Immune System?
There are a number of ways to improve the efficiency of your immune system. These include:
• Eating well. A diet rich in vegetables and containing items known for their immune system benefits (mushrooms, broccoli and probiotics) can go a long way in helping you protect yourself. As foods rich in Vitamin D are rare, it is a good idea to take 1,000 UI of Vitamin D (400 UI for children) per day.
• Drink plenty of water.
• Stop drinking Coffee and reduce refined white sugar from your diet to boost your immune system. Caffeine robs your body of minerals and vitamins.
• Get sufficient Sleep. Many studies have shown that a lack of sleep hurts immunity to some illnesses.
• Be active every day. Active people are generally less affected by the flu than those that are sedentary.
• Staying clean. Regular hand washing and the disinfecting of objects touched regularly (phones, computer keyboards, door handles etc.) remains the best first line of defence against contracting infections.

Is there an end in sight?
While it is difficult to predict how the H1N1 flu will pan out, it now appears that the virus is coming in waves. Keep in mind, seasonal flu typically arrives in November and peaks in January-February. Therefore, it is still going to be important to take precautions into the spring.
Remember, the H1N1 vaccination remains the best way of protecting yourself against this influenza virus.
