The city of London is one of the most popular capitals of the world and accordingly boasts 5 notable airports to help channel visitors into the UK. Central London is easily reached from each of the airports, as you can see from the brief overview below.

Heathrow Airport – Heathrow is London’s largest airport and is the world’s busiest for international passengers. It has five terminals and acts as a regional base to more than 90 airlines, which fly to over 150 destinations worldwide. It is located 22km west of Central London. The cheapest way to get to Central London from Heathrow is by using the London Underground. The journey takes less than an hour – though it will depend on your final destination – and costs around $6.

Gatwick Airport – Second only to Heathrow, Gatwick can be found 45km to the south of London’s centre. Better known for its frequent charter and discount flights, Gatwick is highly popular and as such it is well connected to London. By bus the journey takes an average of 90 minutes however trains regularly run from Gatwick to London Victoria as well.

Stansted Airport – Although not as big as the major airports Stansted caters for a range of budget airlines, a fact that makes it a popular choice for tourists. The airport is located nearly 50km NE of London’s centre but the variety of transport links make commuting easy. Terravision, Stansted Bus and easyBus are reliable methods of travel into London with Marble Arch, Baker Street and Victoria Station being popular destinations.

Luton Airport – This small airport operates a single runway for the use of budget airlines traveling to and from European destinations. Located in the county of Bedfordshire 55km north of London, Luton Airport takes a while to get to and there may be more than one bus journey needed depending on your starting point. There are several round the clock bus services to and from London though, mostly run by Green Line and easyBus.

London City Airport – This small, central airport is situated just 11km from the centre of London and is suited to light aircraft that specialize in short take-offs and landings. Its location close to Canary Wharf makes it ideal for business flights and private travelers destined for the nearby financial district. In addition, the airport is well connected to London in its entirety through the Docklands Light Railway and a network of bus routes.

Alternatives to the 5 London Airports include the centrally located Birmingham Airport and Manchester Airport to the north. Both of these large international airports have very good transport links to London and the rest of the UK, meaning you can be anywhere within the country with just a few hours traveling.

Sleep on the plane if you can. Many people find this a good way to fly, and you’ll be well rested when the plane lands. This is particularly good if your plane lands early in the day. However, if your plane comes in at night and you don’t feel like sleeping, this is a disadvantage. A good tip is to use aromatherapy. Herbs like lavender are good to help calm you down so you can go to sleep and be ready for the next day.

There is a saying that prevention is better than cure. Therefore if you have to prevent jet lag it is better that you take a good night’s sleep the day before you plans to travel. By this you will feel fresh and your body will get adjusted to the changes that you will have to go through once you reached your destination namely time change or day and night change. Without good preparation by resting, you will start to feel irritated and your body will start aching, which will prevent you from having a good rest once you arrived at your destination. Sleeping is not enough to get your body’s energy levels recharged. You should do some exercises to tire your body down so that when you arrive at your destination, you can get a good night’s rest.

Drink water and juices while on board and try to avoid alcohol if possible. To prevent dehydration, drink water after every drink. Fruit juices restore minerals and give you enough energy for the trip.

The best way to avoid jet lag is to prevent its onset. Exercising as soon as you reach your destination can help. By walking around town or the hotel where you are staying, will help to prevent jet lag. You could even climb the stairs of your hotel or jog around to increase your heart beat rate. When you get your heart pumping faster, your body will store the extra energy and thus helping you to adjust to the changing light conditions very easily.

A routine is a good way to make sure you are well rested. If you know you are going to fly for a few hours on end, plan ahead. The week before you travel, adjust your routine so that you eat, sleep, exercise and wake up at more or less the same time each day. This way your body will invent it’s own clock and set it’s rhythm accordingly. It will be easier to step into this “new” routine once you have arrived at your destination. If you don’t really have a set routine, practice the week or even two weeks before you leave.

If your journey program is for a limited time period, you can’t spare time to do extra physical activity to combat jet lag. It is advisable to adopt the daily routine as if you are in your own house. Stick to the usual timing of sleeping, exercising and eating. By doing this, your body can regain its energy levels and you will be able to prevent jet lag.

You now know how to prevent jet lag and also the procedures to fight it. The easiest way to get cheap air ticket is to go to South African Flights, which offer the cheapest ticket fares in the world.

I will be 7 weeks pregnant when I will be traveling by Air (2 hour flight). Should I cancel?

You will be fine to fly right up until about 35 weeks, providing your pregnancy is ‘normal’ and complication free. Different airlines have different polices about the exact weeks.
Flying slightly increases the risk of DVT so ensure you wear support stockings to keep your circulation going.
You may however be uncomfortable if you have morning sickness.

please answer. Need help with back pain?

I am going to summer games in a few weeks and each team is going to be given a class room in a school where they have to sleep you can bring sleeping bags air matresses etc. Which I’m fine with but I dont no if I’m going to beagle to sleep on it or just on the floor because I have a consistent pain in my upper right back that is unbearably bad if I dont get a good night sleep, so bad I can only take short small brethes. I can’t book a hotel room and get a real bed because I’m traveling as a group and am going to be somebody elses responsability. What should I do for sleeping arrangments, how can I make sure I get a good night sleep, what kinds of heating pad works best for getting rid of back pain also what kind of medication

I would suggest taking an air mattress. You can make it firm or let air out to make it softer. I have a large heating pad the I use at work for my back. You can get heat wraps from the pharmacy that are air activated so they are good for travel. I have only used the Thermacare brand so I am not sure how well the others work.
